Retire Mike Piazza's Number Right Now (Flushing University)
Mike Piazza was the greatest position player in Mets' history. It won't be enough to just retire his number - the Mets have an obligation to hold the ceremony in the stadium that Piazza gave Mets fans so many wonderful memories. Read more here ...

The signing of Pedro Martinez keeps getting credit for invigorating a sagging franchise, but, I'm sorry, he hasn't done 1/10 of what Piazza did to an even saggier franchise in the late 90's/early 00's.
A semi-great Piazza moment (only because they ended up losing) was the 3-run HR he hit off John Smoltz in game 6 of the 99 NLCS. I remember going insane in that moment and my wife, in another room, wondering what the hell was wrong with me.

James: you're absolutely right. Piazza's impact showed up on the field, at the gate and in the win column. I loved that Smoltz home run as well; remember, he was injured and that was the last swing he was able to take that night.
Mets Police: thanks for visiting, but you're way off. Piazza was a Met, having spent more time here than in a Dodger uniform. Retiring Hernandez's number instead makes no sense - he was a Cardinal who spent significantly more time in a St. Louis uniform.
