Another Day, Another Disgrace (Flushing University)
It can be rough when your favorite baseball team becomes the laughingstock of the league - especially when it has to do with factors other than wins and losses. But you've been down this road before. You're a Mets fan. Read more here ...
Willie Randolph's career managerial record as of Sept 12 last year stood at 263-226, a .538 winning percentage. Sice then 39-47, a .454 clip. Willie lost it with a certain thud reserved for clumsy high rise window washers...Jeff Kent would have opted for free agency as soon as humanly possible, Baerga was a cagey move at the time. Muchacho bled the orange and blue... There will be a Wilpon in the owners box when you're old, feeble and feedin pigeons from a park bench. Get used to that idea. Count the dumb baseball decisions since Jeffey took a larger roll in'02. Get used to the idea that sometime very soon he'll be completly in charge...John Harper today said hiring Wally would have been like throwing a stick of dynamite into the clubhouse... I like how Omar, three different times that day, pointed out, unpromted, the he was baseball's first Hispanic GM and he hired the city's first black manager, and how important that was to ownership. He spoke about the bond of being minorities. So did he hire the best manager available or the best black manager available? Maybe the idea that he prefrences certain players of Latin origin isn't that far fetched. The color of your skin is very much on the GM's mind.
There might be some validity to that Joe. I know in the NFL they will fine owners for not at least interviewing minority candidates, I'm not sure MLB has the same thing going. The problem with Omar is he didn't hire the best black manager. There has been talk for a while now that this is Omar's MO and it's hard to deny it given the evidence stacked against him.
